    The rich district of Mortlake supports the industries of cattle and wool, and is known as the olivine centre of Victoria. Mortlake is at the foot of Mt Shadwell on a rich volcanic plain, which is centrally located for easy access to both the southern coastal areas of the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians in the north. The annual Mortlake Buskers' Festival attracts crowds of up to 20,000 for the February event.
