    Maryborough is the main centre of the Central Goldfields shire and is situated between the rural cities of Ballarat and Bendigo. Maryborough has grown into a service centre supporting the regions agricultural industry and today maintains a growing range of agricultural value adding and food processing centres. Maryborough has also developed a strong manufacturing base, most famously as a centre of printing and publishing. No other city in Australia prints more paperbacks than Maryborough. Maryborough has a population of over 7,500 and serves a total catchment of more than 18,000 people inside the central Goldfields Shire. Within its catchment is also the Pyrenees wine growing region.
